You’ve joined RWGA, now what??
Now that you’ve made the awesome decision to join the RWGA, you may be wondering when we get started, how you can keep up with the various happenings, when you’ll know if it’s not a Game-of-the-Week week, etc.
We get started on Thursday, March 9th with a GEM of a brunch:
- 9:30 – 10am Greet
- 10am – ~10:25 Eat
- 10:25 – ~ 11:25 Meet
Greet & Eat are hopefully self-explanatory. In the Meet portion we go over the budget and each committee reports on what’ll be happening for the year. I think the cost is around $20 for the Bloody Marys and made-to-order omelets & crepes and other goodies. You are welcome to Greet & Meet without the Eat if you so desire.
We also distribute the annual handbook and sign up for some optional but popular season-long and perpetual competitions:
Birdies, Chip-Ins & Ringers: $10 buy-in puts you in a flighted, season-long competition wherein you keep track of playday birdies, eagles, & chip-ins as well as keep a ringer card where you circle the lowest score for each hole. Payouts are done at the closing meeting (Thursday, November 17th) – you do not need to be present to win! Your fellow competitors will help you with the fine points.
Hole-in-One: Participants pay a one-time initiation fee of $6. Any member scoring a hole-in-one (with another player as a witness) during an 18-hole round at Rivermont will get half of the fund in cash. Members will then pay $3 each to replenish.
Play begins March 16th with an ABCD (different skill levels) 9am shotgun. The Game-of-the-Week commences on Friday March 17th.
Sources & Methods
Our website, rivermontwga.org, has lots of info, including our handbook (sans roster since it’s a public site).
We also assign each new member a “Big Sister”. She’ll be another source of information for you.
You’ll find that while we sometimes get started with paper signups, most of the things we sign up for are done electronically. And most often the tool we use is signupgenius.com. If you’re already familiar, fantastic! If not, it’s pretty easy and any of us can walk you through it. You can take your first stab at it if you’d like to sign up for brunch next week. Click the button at the bottom and we’ll see you there! Or, if you’re less adventurous but want to come to brunch, call Kelly at the club: 770-993-2124.
Game of the Week (GotW)
Many of you newbies are interested in the Friday-Thursday game of the week. When you look at the calendar either in the handbook or our online Google Calendar, note that GotW is indicated by an asterisk. You do need to look to the week ahead. So, the GotW that begins on March 18 is indicated on the Thursday playday March 24.
Looking forward to teeing it up!!
